TheCall

By Wisdom Aseka

Early this year, the post election skirmishes sent chills into the hearts of many in Kenya. But the LORD is raising up a generation of radical Christians who will silence the shockwaves of destruction with fervent prayers in order to finish the year in divine glory and peace.

TheCall is the movement that will bring thousands of Kenyans together to seek God's face for revival in our country.

Origin

In 2000, under the leadership of Lou Engle, TheCall had its first gathering in Washington DC . About 400,000 people gathered to worship and pray for the United States. After that, TheCall was exported to twelve different locations, with people gathering primarily to pray, fast and worship.

On Saturday December 6 at Nyayo Stadium, TheCall will have its first such gathering in Africa.

Minister Daniel Hoogteijling, originally from Holland is the man in charge of TheCall Kenya.

“This solemn assembly will be the first TheCall event on the African continent,” he said.

“I met with one of the international leaders of the ministry (TheCall). She asked me to pray about introducing TheCall into Africa. In September last year during a prayer fast just before the post election crisis, the LORD spoke to us to hold the first solemn assembly which will be on December 6 2008 in Nairobi, Kenya.

“God TV will broadcast this event all around the world to almost half a billion people in 214 nations. This is a chance for the church in Kenya to bring forth a powerful testimony that from the midst of crisis, the body of Christ can gather in massive, united, prayer and fasting for revival in the nation. We are targeting over 50,000 people in this event,” he said.

Not for entertainment

“In the midst of an ‘entertainment' driven society, TheCall does not seek to entertain, but to encounter God. Unlike other mass gatherings which attract people through the rhythms of loud music, the glamour of flashing lights, or through the appeal of charismatic personalities, TheCall is a gathering centered on the affections of a loving God. It will be a gathering of the hungry. There will be no advertised bands and no promoted speakers, as our purpose is not to promote any man or ministry.

“Although there will be national and international leaders and musicians involved, their names will not be used for promotion,” Daniel says.

And so on December 6 th , 2008 from 9am, TheCall is calling for all Kenyans to come and cry out to God for mercy and revival. TheCall is prayerfully asking people to also fast on this day as the Holy Spirit leads, as the day will be primarily spent before the LORD in prayer and worship. TheCall embraces all denominations, ethnic groups and all Christians.

Passion

As Daniel winds up, his passion for Africa is evident.

“The LORD spoke to me to move to Kenya in 2004 which I didn't expect. I worked with ‘Soul Survivor', a youth ministry. My heart is to see revival in Africa, especially among the youth. I also believe that, spiritually speaking, Africa has a lot of riches to offer the poor in the West and I feel privileged to be in Africa because this is where God is moving.

“The year is not over yet and God is not finished with Kenya yet. Something in the Spirit could break out and bless the entire continent. The only reason I am in Kenya is to be a part of an awakening. This day is centered around the desire to see God visit Kenya . My last comment is a question: can a nation be changed in a day?” Daniel poses.
